‘I thank God that the Police arrested me’ – Armed Robbery Suspect

'I thank God that the Police arrested me' - Armed Robbery Suspect (PHOTO)

A suspected armed robber, Sunday Onu, has said that he thanked God over his arrest, as he had tried several times to quit armed robbery but failed.
The suspect who hailed from Benue state claimed that he joined the armed robbery gang a week after his traditional wedding.
He noted that his arrest was divinely arranged as he had severally attempted to quit the evil act but could not.
Onu who is now 34 year old, revealed that his four man armed robbery gang always disguised as NEPA officials in their overalls, knock at the gate of their victims for engineering services only to hold the house hostage at gun point and rob them.
The suspect who claimed to be the driver of the armed robbery gang disclosed that his own share at the end of every operation ranges between N450,000 to 500,000 depending on how much the group made during the operation.
“I joined the gang after my traditional wedding in 2013 and since then we have been working together and each time I wanted to quit something tends to stop me.
“I was the driver of the gang and also use my own car to carry them to any place they want to go for operation, but I don’t follow them for the operation. My duty was to drop them and go out of the operation zone to wait and after operation they called me and I quickly rushed to take them away.
“During the first operation I received the sum of N450,000, I am aware the use guns but we don’t kill,” he explained.
However, luck ran out of him after a resident of one of their victims sent a distress call to the police which swiftly responded and rounded him and one other suspect up while their leaders escaped

Boko Haram: Wanted journalist arrives Nigeria, detained

Ahmad Salkida

Ahmed Salkida, one of the three people declared wanted by the Nigerian Army for allegedly aiding the release of a Boko Haram video showcasing the missing Chibok girls, arrived the country last night. He was reportedly taken into custody by the police, who, however, kept mute over the development.

The Nigerian Army also denied knowledge of the arrival and detention of Salkida, described as a close associate of the Boko Haram founder, Mohammed Yusuf. Salkida was reportedly arrested, yesterday, at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, as he stepped down from an Emirate flight marked EK 785.

One of the female passengers, who sat next to the journalist, told journalists that she recognised Salkida, who was a bit nervous all through the flight. She said she recognized the journalist from photos posted on the Internet and engaged him in conversation throughout the seven-hour flight. She said Salkida told her that he expected to be arrested upon arrival because he was travelling with an Emergency Travel Certificate, ETC, and that the DSS was aware of his coming. He expressed fear that he would not be given a fair trial and accused the government of pronouncing him guilty without trial. Salkida further told the passenger that he did not know the whereabouts of Boko Haram leaders or Chibok girls.

However, he admitted to receiving two video clips from Boko Haram before they were released to the public. He said Boko Haram had confidence in his objectivity as an investigative journalist, having previously interviewed Mohammed Yusuf, the founding leader of Boko Haram. Salkida had expressed surprise that the army declared him wanted since they knew how to reach him if they wanted him.

The man was declared wanted alongside Aisha Wakil and Ahmed Bolori penultimate week by the Nigerian army, which accused them of engaging in acts of terrorism for being accessory to the release of the Chibok girls video. But the trio have expressed surprise over the action of the military, saying that they knew how to reach them without declaring them wanted as common criminals and exposing them to opium.

Police: Dallas gunman ID'd as Micah Johnson; said he wanted to 'kill white officers’

DALLAS — The sniper who participated in an attack that killed five officers and wounded seven others during a demonstration in downtown Dallas was hell-bent on killing white people, especially white police officers, police said Friday.
“The suspect said he was upset about Black Lives Matter. He said he was upset about the recent police shootings,” Dallas Police Chief David Brown said at a news conference.
Police have not named the sniper, but a Texas law enforcement official told the Associated Press the suspect, who was killed last night in a standoff with officers, is 25-year-oldMicah Johnson.
The Los Angeles Times reported that Johnson was a Dallas resident with family in the nearby suburb of Mesquite. The military-focused publication Stars and Stripes reported that an Army spokesperson confirmed that Johnson was an Army veteran.
Public records show no known criminal record for Johnson and his most recent address is listed as a home belonging to his mother, located 20 miles outside downtown Dallas.
A Facebook photo dated April 30 of this year shows Johnson pictured with Professor Griff of the hip-hop grop Public Enemy, known for its politically charged music and critique of police treatment of the African American community.  A 1989 single title “Fight The Power” is the group’s best known song.
October 2010 photos on Johnson’s mother’s Facebook page show a young man dressed in U.S. Army fatigues posing with a pistol. It could not be immediately confirmed if the soldier is Johnson.
In a morning press conference, Brown detailed the tense moments with the suspect as police engaged him in an hours-long standoff in a downtown Dallas parking garage. The suspect told officers “the end is near” and vowed to kill more officers. After negotiations with the suspect failed, police deployed a robot to deliver a bomb that killed the suspect.
Robotics expert Peter W. Singer told the Associated Press this is the first instance of a robot being used to kill a suspect. Brown said he say no other way to ensure the safety of his officers.
The suspect, who had continued to fire at officers even after they cornered him in the parking garage, died about 2 a.m. Friday. He told officers he was acting alone, but police said investigators are still trying to identify other potential assailants. The chief declined to provide specifics.
“We’re going to keep these suspects guessing,” Brown said.
Fourteen people in all were wounded in Thursday night’s ambush, which sent hundreds of demonstrators running for cover near City Hall. The victims included two civilians.
“Working together with rifles, [they] triangulated at elevated positions in different points in the downtown area where the march ended up going,” Brown said.
Members of the police department had met with protest organizers several times before the event, Brown said at an earlier, overnight news conference. The event had been peaceful with Black Lives Matter and police on site before shots rang.
“We have yet to determine whether or not there was some complicity with the planning of this, but we will be pursuing that,” Brown said.
Earlier in the evening, police published on Twitter a photo of a gun-toting man, with the message, “This is one of our suspects. Please help us find him!” The man, later identified as Mark Hughes, turned himself into police when he realized he had been identified as a person of interest and was released after being questioned for about 30 minutes, CBS News reported.
“I could easily have been shot,” Hughes told the network. He was interviewed in Dallas with his brother Cory Hughes. Both were downtown to participate in the protest.
Mark Hughes was carrying an AR-15-like gun on a shoulder holster, which is legal in Texas. After shots rang out downtown, Corey Hughes said, “I told my brother, give your gun to [police] because we don’t want an accident.”
Bystanders reported hearing dozens of shots fired near City Hall about 9 p.m. local time. The gunfire terrified hundreds of demonstrators, sending them running for cover.
Witnesses agreed that the shooter or shooters ambushed officers from a multi-story parking garage.
“The cops had no idea who was shooting at them,” Jamal Johnson told KTVT-TV in Dallas. “Everyone knew it wasn’t a firework — it was an actual shot.”
The shooting broke out just hours after President Obama — reacting to the shootings deaths of black men in Minnesota and Louisiana this week — posted an emphatic message on Facebook calling upon all Americans to confront persistent racial disparities between law enforcement and the communities they serve.
“To admit we’ve got a serious problem in no way contradicts our respect and appreciation for the vast majority of police officers who put their lives on the line to protect us every single day,” he wrote. “It is to say that, as a nation, we can and must do better to institute the best practices that reduce the appearance or reality of racial bias in law enforcement.”
“They’re shooting right now and there’s an officer down,” Michael Bautista says during this Facebook live stream video. Rapid gunfire can be heard in the background.
The causality count as of 7 a.m. local time:
4 — Dallas police officers deceased
1 — Dallas Area Rapid Transit officer deceased
7 — Officers wounded
2 — Civilians wounded
It is believed to be the deadliest day in Dallas Police Department history.

Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings said the White House and Texas governor’s office both called to offer support.
“It is a heartbreaking morning to lose these four officers,” a visibly shaken Rawlings said prior to the fifth fatality. “To say police officers put their life on the line every day is no hyperbole ladies and gentlemen, it’s a reality. We as a city, we as a country must come together and lock arms and heal the wounds we all feel from time to time.”
Police were requesting that all citizens clear downtown streets in the aftermath of the shooting, but pockets of citizens continued to confront officers on city streets during the wee hours of the morning. The Omni Dallas Hotel, located a few blocks from the mayhem, displayed “Back The Blue” in gigantic neon letters around its building.

rape
A secondary school teacher, Cosmos Ubaja, was on Monday arrested by the police in Lagos State for allegedly raping a 14-year-old schoolgirl in Ikorodu area of the state.
The unnamed teenager had gone to Ubaja’s shop to make photocopies after school hours when the accused lured her into sleeping with her.
The suspect, who owns a computer centre in the area, was contracted by the school to teach the junior pupils computer studies.
According to the Punch, the victim, a Junior Secondary School, Class 3 student in a public secondary school in the Owutu area of Ikorodu, had been allegedly raped by the suspect on several occasions in eight months and was always given peanuts such as N50, N100 and N30, each time.
Ubaja, a father of one had been raping the girl for months and the girl kept the secret away from her parents.
The last straw which broke the camel’s back was on June 1 when the girl complained to her mother that she had stomach pains and her menstrual cycle was affected.
She was then taken to a private hospital where it was discovered that she had been raped several times.
The teenager confessed that it was the computer instructor who raped her and he was arrested.
The matter was reported at the Owutu Police Division and also to the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Response Team, DSVRT, Alausa.
The DSVRT team took the victim for a checkup at the Mirabel Centre, Ikeja.
The group’s Coordinator, Lola Vivour-Adeniyi, said the matter had been transferred to the Gender Unit of the Lagos State Police Command.
According to her, “The 14-year-old girl was raped by her computer teacher near the school’s premises.
“The teacher and some individuals around the school initially pleaded with the girl’s parents not to report to the police. Fortunately, they rejected the plea.
“The perpetrator is in police custody and the case has been transferred from the division to the Gender Unit at the police headquarters, Ikeja. The Directorate of Public Prosecutions has also requested the duplicate case file.”
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, said Ubaja has confessed to the crime and will be charged to court soon.
